I don’t know about you, but the summer has went by quickly this year. Soon the kids will be back to school and the cool weather will be coming through, along with its longer nights. Even though you may want the summer to last for as long as possible, you don’t have to end the summer with the same ending as last year. Let’s send the summer off with a big bang of fun. Here are a few party ideas for the end of summer that will be a blast.

Create a Theme

A beach or pool party are the most common end of summer events, but how about having a theme completely different.

Outdoor Movie Party

Hang a white sheet up, rent a projector, choose a movie and you will be ready to go with your own backyard movie theater. You can add a few cushions, pillows or beanbag chairs to make your guest comfortable. Serve some goodies such as popcorn, soda and candy or more healthy foods if you prefer.

Shake Your Groove Thang

Go back in time to the 60’s, 70’s or 80’s and shake what your mama gave you! Grab a record player and find some records from the era that you’ve chosen your theme for. Put on some hip huggers, find some peace signs or tease out your hair as big as you can get it. If you don’t mind going back further into your childhood, add a few board games in the mix like Twister, Yahtzee, Connect Four or The Game of Life.

Dog Days of Summer

Don’t want to have Fido feeling left out, then you can invite guest over that have dogs also and make it a pet friendly-party. You can provide a few squeaky toys, a children’s swimming pool and some treats so that the furry friends can have some fun, too.

Update the Classic Cookout

Throw in a few burgers and hot dogs on the grill, but add some more variety to a regular barbecue.

1. Cooking Up Old School
Sliders seem to be popular nowadays, so you could make some BBQ Pork Sliders with a side of sweet potato fries. You could even have some summer veggie sandwiches or salads and don’t forget homemade mac ‘n’ cheese.

2. Signature Drinks
Classic lemonade and sweet tea are great summer drinks that your own twist by adding a bit of fruit. You can even add other non-alcoholic drinks such as strawberry daiquiris.

3. Sugar Rush
Create a space to have a cookie bar. Guest can make their own creations from the platter of cookies like peanut butter, chocolate chip or sugar cookies. Make sure to have a variety for those who may be allergic to certain ingredients or may be gluten free. You could even have an ice cream party.
