Momtastic SuperBowl Ads! (In Case You Were Out With The Girls)

Well, there’s another Super Bowl behind us–and unless you were hosting the Super Bowl Party (or cheering on your team), you might have hidden away from all the action. We can’t blame you. But you still might have missed out on some great commercials that would’ve really charmed you as a mom. Sometimes we just don’t mind being pandered to with fun family imagery, or cute kids, or even babies, or baby animals. Frankly, that’s Madison Avenue at its best. (Sorry, Mad Men fans, but ad agencies really aren’t on Madison Avenue anymore.) Anyway, here are the Super Bowl spots that had us laughing, or just impressed, or maybe even getting a little misty while trying to handle a cuteness overload. Check out our favorites below–and don’t blame us if you end up running out and buying a car you don’t need. That’s just the magic of advertising. You wouldn’t believe some of the stuff that’s it had purchasing over the years…

This ad sure knew how to appeal to our college-rockin’ indie days. We can’t argue with bringing in the Flaming Lips to make for an Epic Day for an Epic Family. That’s the difference between a Super Bowl ad by Hyundai and a normal ad for Hyundai. A normal ad has a Flaming Lips song. A Super Bowl ad has the Flaming Lips themselves…

And here’s another winner for Hyundai, as a little kid takes on neighborhood bullies by putting together a suburban A-Team. That’s some smart marketing. Nothing appeals to us like our poor sweet little angels organizing to take revenge on some kind of louts…

eTrade always comes through with a Talking Baby commercial for the Super Bowl, and this year’s combines cuteness and cash:

And while this one didn’t come along until the end of the game, Kia scored really big with their “Babylandia” spot. Check out this dad’s amazing improvising as he’s faced with the chilling question of “Where do babies come from?” This commercial brings a big lie to such shining life that…well, we wish it was true. We’d wish it was true even if it wouldn’t have saved us a few hours of labor pains….
